Description:
If the word “math” in the title scared you a bit, then this course might be for you! Math refresher is a course for non-mathematicians who had little to no exposure to mathematics during the undergraduate studies. It aims to refresh and build on basic mathematical knowledge, and explain the intuition behind mathematical concepts which can be encountered in any research field. We design the course so that it is easy to understand for anyone with no more than high-school level mathematics, emphasizing the general concepts rather than technical details, and providing hands-on exercises for you to check whether you understood them. It will run in the form of weekly modules, each focused on a different field, taught by friendly students and postdocs who use this field in their research. The topics range from derivatives, integrals and differential equations to linear algebra and statistics. The goal is to get familiarized with the terminology and concepts so that when you need to understand a mathematically involved part of a paper or a project, you will know what to search for or what to ask your colleagues about.
